The latest issue of Marauders revealed that Storm, the veteran X-Men team leader, had a deadly arsenal hidden within the confines of his costume.
WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Marauders # 20 by Gerry Duggan, Stefano Caselli, Edgar Delgado, Chris Sotomayor, Tom Muller and VC’s Cory Petit, on sale now.
The Hellfire Gala is just around the corner and the Marauders Anti-Freedom Team is gearing up for the massive X-Men event. They have done a great job around the world, sailing the high seas in search of their mutant siblings who need a helping hand. As the Marauders sit around the dinner table, their discussion turns to Storm, who they believe will leave the team when they return to Krakoa.

To celebrate her time with the group, the Marauders discuss Storm’s exploits, with the conversation leading to her Knife Mastery, and a guessing game ensues as her teammates attempt to find out how many blades she has hidden on her person. .
As the team recalls, Pyro recalls the brutal events he witnessed as part of the Brotherhood of Magneto. As shocking as the violence exhibited by Avalanche and Magneto always was, the moment that impressed Pyro the most was seeing Storm free a mutant companion from his slavery with little more than a well-placed throwing knife. Without harming anyone, Storm intimidated the overseer of the shipbreaking yard into releasing the young mutant known as Lash. As amazed as Pyro was by Storm saving the day without spilling blood, the conversation quickly turns to the number of knives Storm carries. Pyro himself guesses that there are three, and all Ooro can do is laugh at such a few.
Ororo Monroe may be better known for commanding elements than throwing steel, but she has always been within reach with a blade, much more than she is with any other weapon. One of the most memorable knife fights of his career, took place in 1983 Uncanny X-Men # 170 by Chris Claremont and Paul Smith. When Nightcrawler, Colossus, and Storm were kidnapped by the Morlocks, whose leader Callisto intended to marry the unwilling Angel, Storm was the one who deposed Callisto from his throne. After challenging Chief Morlock to ritual combat, Storm defeated his opponent with nothing more than a blade and his fists. This moment was cemented in X-Men history as one of the brightest examples of Storm’s abilities, though it was far from his most brutal victory.
At last year’s “X of Swords” event, in X-Force # 14 of Benjamin Percy, Gerry Duggan and Joshua Cassara, Storm went to the arena to face the mutant Arrakii Death. Although his opponent posed a formidable challenge, Storm was able to give him a solid defeat, smashing his sword with one of his knives before slipping the weapon through him and coming away victorious.
Ultimately, it’s Bishop who wins the bet after his guess of seven knives is the closest to the eight Storm chooses to reveal. Bishop and Pyro are convinced that she is hiding even more, but Ororo chooses not to address the matter further.
With the upcoming Hellfire gala and a new era for mutants approaching, Storm might end up needing his knives sooner rather than later. Hopefully there won’t be a need for violence at the Gala, but if there’s at least one mutant, he’ll be perfectly prepared.
