Dimapur, May 8 (MExN): A Day of Awareness and Practical Use of Geographic Information System (GIS) in Agricultural Research was organized by Department of Soil and Water Conservation, SASRD University of Nagaland, in collaboration with ICAR -AICRP on fruits, Medziphema center, horticulture department on May 6.

During the technical session, resource person Dr Liza G Kiba explained the application of remote sensing and GIS in estimating potential runoff due to rainfall, according to a press release received here on Sunday. Dr. Kiba is said to have said that estimating the total runoff is very important for drawing any hydrological structure or for predicting floods and also for adopting mitigation measures.

In the second session, Somnath Mandal trained the participants in the application of geospatial technology in agricultural science for precision agriculture and also mentioned that it will help in monitoring and forecasting agriculture-related activities.

Previously, the program was chaired by Sewak Ram, Organizing Secretary, while the welcome address was delivered by Prof. RC Nayak and the keynote address by Prof. CS Maiti. In conclusion, a vote of thanks was conveyed by Dr. Alongba Jamir. A total of 81 participants, including professors, doctoral students and master’s students, have benefited from this program, the statement said.
