Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society launches 2022 scholarship for students

Would you like additional financial support to help you with your college or career choice? The Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society Student Scholarship is now open for applications.

The £1,000 scholarship is open to all qualified students studying agriculture, veterinary science, agricultural engineering, food technology, forestry or other subjects clearly related to agriculture.

The scholarship is tax-free and will be awarded to the student who, in the opinion of a jury, has submitted the best essay on how the scholarship will help them complete their degree program.

The latest recipient of the award was Gracie Morris, 21, from St. Davids. A former student of Ysgol Croesgoch and Ysgol Dewi Sant, Gracie was in her fourth and final year at Harper Adams University studying BSc Agriculture with Crop Management at the time she won the award.

Gracie said: “It was an honor and a privilege to be awarded the Pembrokeshire County Show Scholarship in 2019. The scholarship enabled me to undertake research for my final year dissertation on biofumigation to control Rhizoctonia solani in potatoes.

“The scholarship allowed me to have financial security during my last year of studies. Most of my free time was spent on research for my thesis, so having a part-time job alongside university was not possible for me.

Gracie recommends qualified students to apply for the award. She said: “I urge all students in Pembrokeshire who are studying subjects clearly aligned with agriculture to apply for this scholarship as it will not only help you in your studies but also provide you with great experiences such as directing of an interview which is a key. job skill. It will also help you in your future career within the agriculture industry.

Eligible students must not have won the scholarship on a previous occasion, the applicant must be studying or have been accepted to study agriculture or related subjects at a UK college or university at A level or above and Applicants’ family home must be in Pembrokeshire.

Rob James, chairman of the company’s scholarship committee, said: “A panel of independent judges, chaired by a representative of the company, will compile a short list of candidates who will be interviewed and the winning candidate will be asked to make a short presentation. at a future meeting of the society’s show board.

“The level of applications has always been exceptional, which is heartening that there are many very talented young people in our community. We look forward to receiving applications for this year’s scholarship and hearing from the younger generation.

To participate, students must submit a 1,000 word essay titled “How the scholarship will help my career progression”.

The deadline for submitting applications is Friday, July 1, 2022.
