OnePlus definitely does things differently from other phone makers, especially when it comes to consumer relations and marketing. He has long since stopped trying to block the leaks and insider tips that have become nearly impossible to do anyway in recent years. Instead, it tries to get ahead of these unofficial sources by teasing its own devices, which leaves nothing else to be guessed. That’s exactly what he’s doing again when his own CEO leaked some details about the OnePlus Nord N200 5G, just days before the OnePlus Nord CE 5G launched.
Granted, things have gotten a bit confusing since OnePlus launched its new North series. The original OnePlus Nord was clearly a mid-range phone, but the lines blur when the OnePlus Nord N10 5G and OnePlus Nord N100 arrived. It’s going to get even more confusing with the OnePlus Nord N200 5G despite CEO Carl Pei insisting otherwise.
The OnePlus Nord N200 5G is positioned as an upgrade to the OnePlus Nord N100, of course, but also rivals the OnePlus Nord N10 5G somewhat. It does this by adding 5G to the previously only 4G entry-level phone, then upgrading its display to a 6.49-inch display at 90Hz with 1080p resolutions. It looks almost identical to the OnePlus Nord N10 5G but with one key difference.
OnePlus is targeting a price below $ 250 in the US, which puts the OnePlus Nord N200 5G below the OnePlus Nord N10 5G. The company is clearly aiming to enter the low-cost 5G phone market, where Samsung’s Galaxy A series and some Moto G phones lead the way. However, there will also be a successor to the OnePlus Nord N10 5G, but Pei remains coy about that.
The general manager of the company also gave an overview to PCMAG of the design of the OnePlus Nord N200 5G, with a bump that houses three cameras in a design reminiscent of its more expensive flagships. That said, OnePlus isn’t teasing any date just yet as it wants to shine the spotlight on the OnePlus Nord CE 5G first, which will launch this week in India and Europe.
