Minister of Agriculture: Modernization of the agricultural sector beneficial for the country
The Minister of Agriculture said that the implementation of the agricultural sector modernization policy in Cambodia is bearing fruit.
Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Minister Veng Sakhon told local news that the implementation of the modernization of the agricultural sector is beneficial for the country.
The minister said that the royal government has set a long-term vision for the development of the country. The plan is to transform Cambodia from a low income country to a high income country.
The plan aims to see Cambodia progress to a middle-income country by 2030 and then to a high-income country by 2050. Development policy will also promote peace, stability, social order, development. sustainable and equitable, with a highly educated population, a decent standard of living and a harmonious life.
Minister Sakhon said that in order to contribute to the realization of the policy and vision of the royal government, transformation of the agricultural sector is a necessity. The sector needs to be modernized to be competitive, climate resilient, sustainable and environmentally friendly. The definition of political objectives for the development of agriculture will make the sector the basis for dynamic development, he added.
So far, the Ministry of Rural Development has made efforts in several areas: modernization of agricultural value chains, public and private investments in agriculture, sustainable growth and increasing resilience to climate change, and institutional reform and cross-cutting issues.
The Minister is certain that the practice of modern agriculture will help the work in the mixed farming system to be more productive and sustainable. The sector as a whole will benefit from the development, digitization and improvement of quality, food safety and sustainability in modern food systems.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries hopes that the total agricultural production for 2021 will be higher than that of 2020. He also indicated that agricultural exports for the first 9 months of the current year were rising. at over 6 million tonnes and is valued at $ 3.8 billion.
