The Jason Hehir-led series tells the story of one of basketball’s greatest icons and most successful teams in sports history, Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls of the 1990s, and features never-before-seen footage of the 1997-1998 season as the team pursued its sixth NBA championship in eight years.
Complete description of the series:
In the fall of 1997, Michael Jordan, Bulls owner Jerry Reinsdorf and head coach Phil Jackson agreed to let an NBA Entertainment film crew follow the team throughout the season. The result would be a remarkable portrayal of an iconic player and famous team – a portrayal that is only revealed more than two decades later in “The Last Dance”.
As the series weaves its way through the tumultuous 1997-98 season, viewers will be transported to how it all began – from the roots of Jordan’s childhood, to the dire circumstances the Bulls had before he arrived and how whose team was built after drafting him in 1984, to the struggles that ultimately led to the team’s first NBA Championship. As the series takes audiences through the Bulls’ first five championships, viewers will experience the challenges, struggles and triumphs off the field that were part of the culture change phenomenon created by Jordan and the Bulls.
It’s an unlikely storyline that serves as a fascinating backdrop to the inner story of the 1998 championship race, with detailed profiles of Jordan’s key teammates including Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman and Steve Kerr, the coach- chef Phil Jackson, and featuring dozens of interviews today. with rivals and luminaries in basketball and beyond. Throughout, the tension and conflict that defined this final championship race is very visible.
The 10-part documentary series on Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls’ quest for a sixth NBA Championship in 1998 is produced by Mandalay Sports Media, in association with NBA Entertainment and Jump 23.
