Meadow Lake Agricultural Society gears up for 4-H Livestock Show and Sale
All steers from 4-H club projects in the district will be auctioned, including Grand Champion and Reserve Champion steers.
“Every year we have our morning show,” Jensen said. “Then all the shoppers and business people will come down at 3:30 or 4 p.m. and [we] pass it through a normal auction.
4-H youth are also looking forward to the event.
“They’re hoping for good exposure and good sales because they spend a lot of time on their projects throughout the year,” Jensen said. “For beef, it’s usually September when we start, until mid-June.”
Through their involvement in 4-H, youth earn academic credits and have the opportunity to win scholarships to help them with their post-secondary education.
In addition to the Meadow Lake Club, Makwa and Goodsoil, known as Beaver River, 4-H Beef Clubs will also be showcasing their cattle.
Additional daytime activities include the Meadow Lake 4-H Light Horse Show around 1:30 or 2:00 p.m.
“They’re going to do a little demo to show their plans for the year,” Jensen said.
In addition, the Goodsoil Multiple 4-H Club will be present with its stand.
Prior to the June 7 event, a number of Success Days are planned across the region which are open to the public. Meadow Lake 4-H Light Horse Success Day is May 28th. Beaver River 4-H Farm Success Day is May 29th. will take place on June 5.
Jensen invites everyone to attend one of the events offered.
“The more the merrier,” he said. “We love showing people the projects and how hard the kids have worked throughout the year.”
