When Maddie Ziegler and Mackenzie Ziegler were dumped Dance moms, they had no idea how much the show was going to change their lives. But the popular Lifetime series made them household names with millions of fans. Now the sisters are pursuing other avenues in the entertainment industry and supporting each other along the way. But the couple didn’t always have the incredible relationship they have today.
Although Maddie doesn’t often talk about her time Dance moms, she explained how she and Mackenzie found their way into the show. “When I was about seven, a production company came to the studio to interview and audition some families,” Music star shared with SBJCT Journal. “My family was chosen and ended up doing six seasons. We just learned new dances every week and competed with them every weekend. It was a fast paced environment and there was a lot of drama.
How ‘Dance Moms’ Affected Maddie Ziegler and Mackenzie Ziegler
Sadly, much of that drama surrounded Maddie and how she was favored over other cast members by studio owner and dance teacher Abby Lee Miller. The other dancers were constantly compared to and opposed to Maddie. One person who really suffered from the comparisons was Mackenzie. Miller and Dance moms fans always urged her to be more like her older sister and naturally that took a toll on her self-esteem.

For her part, Maddie had no idea how Dance moms was for Mackenzie. Although the couple are thick as thieves now, they have had their fair share of sibling bickering after constantly surrounding each other. Fortunately, after making the decision to quit the show, they were able to deepen their relationship.
The ‘Music’ star talks candidly about her little sister
“It’s interesting how it worked growing up with my sister,” Maddie shared of her. Dance moms live. “I couldn’t imagine doing it without her but, at the same time, we fought like crazy! Our relationship only started to get amazing after we left the show. We would always bang our heads because we were so consumed by each other. Plus, throughout her experience on the show, people constantly compared her to me, which really breaks my heart. We are two different people. Neither of us is better than the other. She’s my best friend and I love seeing her grow into the beautiful girl she is today. “

Filming Dance moms couldn’t be easy for any of the Ziegler sisters. Maddie was constantly expected to be perfect, while Mackenzie was often compared to her sister. However, both dancers seem to be doing well now. Maddie continues to dance but also pursues her acting career and explores her passion for makeup. Mackenzie, on the other hand, continues to pursue music and has recently released a number of songs to the world. We’re sure Ziegler fans can’t wait to see what the sisters do next.
