Lawton Community Theater raises funds with Halloween costume sale

LAWTON, Oklahoma (KSWO) – The Lawton Community Theater has decided to get creative with its fall fundraiser this year, hosting a Halloween costume sale on Saturday just in time for the spooky season.

In a world where the most popular Halloween costumes are superheroes and princesses, LCT has come up with some unique costumes.

Buyers have purchased items from productions like The Lion King, Spamalot and Young Frankenstein.

General manager Chance Harmon said he wasn’t sure who was having the most fun – the LCT volunteers or the buyers.

“We have costumes that we kind of have to purge because we have to make room for new, for new shows, and we thought that was a great idea,” Harmon said. “We can sell these costumes, and you know that’s the type of year I don’t know about you, but sometimes I’m like ‘What am I going to be for Halloween?’ so they can come here and be with a bunch of actors and comedians and we can give them ideas.

Catherine Wright sits on the fundraising committee.

She said the idea started at a board meeting and grew from there.

“Basically, getting all the stuff that we knew we couldn’t use anymore and squeezing it out of what we have, so that we opened up some space and that’s when we decided why wouldn’t we do not a sale costume since we’re coming to Halloween and they’re such great costumes but can’t use them, so let’s make it a win-win, ”Wright said.

Even before the big sale, people stopped by the theater to start shopping for items with everything from sunglasses to shoes and jewelry available.

“We are the oldest community theater in the state of Oklahoma,” said Harmon. “We have provided great entertainment, camps for the kids and we just want to keep that tradition alive, and of course we still need the support of the community and they really came out today.”

According to Wright, events like this are exactly what makes LCT such an important part of the Southwestern Oklahoma community.

“When you ask yourself, ‘What’s great about Lawton? I think the Lawton Community Theater is at the forefront of a lot of people’s minds when they go to Lawton, when they think of Lawton. It’s something that makes us really special, ”said Wright.

Harmon said the fundraising goal for the day was $ 5,000.

LCT’s next show will be “The Last Five Years” at the end of October.
