Federal Government Inducts Committee for Agricultural Research Outcomes, Innovation

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr Mohammad Mahmood Abubakar inaugurated the implementation committee for commercialization of agricultural research and innovation results, saying it would promote quality agricultural products and standard and advocate for Global Good Agricultural Practices (GAP).

The Minister also said that the initiative will facilitate conformity assessment criteria for the export of agricultural products with a view to ensuring zero rejection of agricultural products with better post-harvest management in the sector.

Speaking at the inauguration in Abuja, the minister who was represented by the permanent secretary of the ministry, Dr. Ernest Umakhihe, said that the “priority value chain development already identified and captured in the AfCFTA and the national implementation plan for the agricultural sector, would ensure market competitiveness, infrastructure development and technological innovations”.

Responding on behalf of the committee, the Executive Secretary of the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN), Prof. Garba Sharubutu, represented by Dr. Charles Ebojei, said there was a need for a sensitization workshop to create awareness of the patent terms. research innovations.
