In My Hero Academia Chapter # 309, Deku debuted a disturbing new outfit that is drastically different from many of his previous hero costumes. This new outfit might be more likely to scare the average citizen than reassure them about a hero’s presence.

As Deku continues to learn to use One For All in a more flexible way, his costume has evolved with him, although, interestingly, he never strayed too far from the theme of his very first costume. But this new design has a darker feel than before.

Deku’s outfit swelled a bit when he switched to Costume Gamma, which included braces to support his weakened arms and steel soles that further complemented his new shooting style. He also added supportive gloves, designed by Mei Hatsume, along the line. These new gloves allowed Deku to use the pressurized winds he showed in his match against Shoto on a smaller scale, but with much more precision.

Her latest costume, confusing as it is, looks more like a reminder of her very first jumpsuit. He has a few unique features, both in terms of functionality and aesthetics, that illustrate just how far he has come on his way to becoming the world’s greatest hero.

The new costume is an almost complete overhaul of the Gamma Costume. Deku retains his steel-toed boots, however, implying that he hasn’t totally given up. the shooting style. A new addition to this suit are the mid-gauntlet compression support elements, metal bands that cover her entire forearm – similar to the item Melissa Shield gave her. Two heroes. The mid-gauntlets strengthen Deku’s entire body, allowing him to exceed his allowable limit of 45% of One For All. However, they still can’t withstand 100% of his power, so Deku has to be careful.

Deku’s face is hidden by a mouthguard, and his iconic bunny-eared mask is pulled forward, though he looks a bit worse in wear than ever. The latest addition is Gran Torino’s combat cape, which he wears like a shawl around his shoulders. The full effect gives Deku a more menacing aura. The ragged clothing and unpolished appearance give her a close resemblance to hero slayer Stain.

Deku’s costume has always reflected the kind of hero he aims to be. Back in the days when it was “the one who saves everyone with a smile”, the All Might influence was impossible to miss. Later costumes continue to reflect who Deku is becoming, as the new additions help shape his own identity. His goals changed again after the Paranormal Liberation War, and now he aims to recover as many escaped villains as possible while keeping his identity a secret.

This new anonymity also means that he won’t get any credit for captured villains and although he works with the best heroes, he will still be classified as a vigilante. It’s an arrangement that fits perfectly with Stain’s vision of what a hero should look like.

Deku’s new costume is perfect for this new purpose. The medium gauntlets allow him to take on even stronger villains like Muscular and the permanent mask will protect his identity. Deku’s “vigilante” costume hasn’t been shown much in action yet, but it is clearly more powerful than it has ever been. It might even hide a few more surprises to reveal in the future.
