The market will take place every second Saturday of the month
The Carnegie Art Center has a monthly “Makers Market” that will take place outside on its lawn every second Saturday of the month from May through September. This monthly event will feature up to 35 vendors selling handicrafts, vintage items and / or refreshments at 240 Goundry St., North Tonawanda.
The Carnegie Art Center is usually the primary organizer of the arts and crafts show that takes place during the last weekend of Canal Fest. The craft fair is also a fundraiser for the nonprofit arts organization, as vendors pay a fee to participate. The newly created monthly “Makers Market” will serve as an alternative to the craft fair, as Canal Fest is canceled this year due to COVID-19 restrictions. The “Makers Market” will showcase local artists, artisans and other creative vendors while encouraging the community to visit the Carnegie Art Center located in the historic Sweeney Estate district. It will be a place to shop for handcrafted items including paintings, jewelry, and unique crafts.
The “Makers Market” will take place on the lawn on the following dates and times:
√ Saturday May 8: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (shop for handmade items from local vendors for Mother’s Day)
√ Saturday June 12: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
√ Saturday July 10: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
√ Saturday August 14: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
√ Saturday September 11: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The sellers will be left behind on the lawn. Guests are required to wear masks during events and at social distancing. The place itself will be open and a different art exhibition will be presented each month. During the month of May, the center will host an exhibition titled “MY Colors OUR TRUTH Exhibition” featuring works from the WNY-Urban Arts Collective. Market events are free and will take place rain or shine.
The Carnegie Art Center is currently accepting submissions to participate in the Monthly Market. Potential suppliers can apply to www.carnegieartcenter.org. For Carnegie Art Center members, it costs $ 40 to participate as a vendor per event. It costs $ 50 per event for the general public. Proceeds will support the center and its arts-related programming that runs year-round. Submissions will be accepted until places are filled.
