Bullitt County company that makes flags from bourbon barrels to donate sales to struggling veterans | New

SHEPHERDSVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – There’s a familiar feeling in the air for the employees working together at Cruise Customs.

“When it was game time we were ready,” said owner Chris Cruise.

They are veterans who are now colleagues. They all know that the noise and action of serving in the military can be hard to stop.

“We sometimes lose that sense of purpose when we leave the military,” said Trace Chesser, CEO of USA Cares.

The Cruise Customs workshop can offer some comfort.

“It’s so therapeutic,” said Elder, a veteran.

Employees can understand and talk about where they have been and the challenges they still face when designing the flag they fought for from old bourbon barrels. The hope is that every wooden creation can be purchased and gifted to veterans and others, showing their appreciation and patriotism.

Cruise Customs employs several veterans.

This month, 15% of all Cruise Customs sales will be donated to USA Cares to help veterans and military families in need of emergency assistance.

“I think that’s what today’s veterans are doing not just to give back, but to help each other,” Cruise said.

Cruise and his employees know that once you put on that uniform, you are bonded with others who do the same for life.
