Brasserie Fort George – Head R&D Brewer – Craft Beer Job Listing


Locally owned and operated, Fort George Brewery in historic Astoria, Oregon, makes original beers distributed throughout the Pacific Northwest and now hires an R&D head brewer. Having recently commissioned our new waterfront production facility, this senior level position will have the opportunity to oversee small and medium brewing systems and a team of creative brewers in our home location in downtown to create fun unique and creative creations. , draft only or small batch projects, barrel and wild fermentation projects, and more. This position will work closely with our Marketing, Graphic Design and Sales teams to coordinate production planning and label design, as well as planning special outings with our members-only bottle club, Lovell Auto. Co. lead beer collaborations and building key relationships, work to find partners within our industry and overseas, and participate in beer events, competitions and festivals.

This position will ensure that these projects run successfully, safely and efficiently. The R&D head brewer oversees or delegates all operational aspects such as personnel planning and management, recipe development and creative techniques, daily work, production planning and brewing, transfers, l packaging and shipping. Schedule generally MF, but may occasionally include weekends, evenings, holidays and extended hours as required.

  • 21 years or older

  • Ideally 3 to 5 years of leadership experience and 3 to 5 years of experience in a production brewing operations environment; in-depth knowledge of the basics of brewery production operations and love of people management

  • Ability to communicate in a noisy environment

  • General knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions associated with the work

  • Ability to safely use brewery equipment, become Forklift Certified within 15 days of rental

  • Valid OLCC server license required upon hiring; Cicerone Certified Beer Server Certification or better preferred

  • Ability to adapt to frequent changes in workload and quickly adjust priorities according to circumstances
