Artist Bruno Redondo has revealed Batgirl’s new costume that will first appear in his Nightwing series starring Tom Taylor, Adriano Lucas and Wes Abbott. The new purple costume features a black cape with a yellow interior. Barbara wears a black hood, boots and pouches, while a yellow bat symbol appears on her chest. Redondo’s notes really detail the attention paid to the design. Gordon, who was previously paralyzed after being shot by the Joker, will have a reinforcing structure that connects to his cape to put less strain on his spine.
Other cool features include white eyes, similar to Nightwing and Batman, as well as his cape made from clever fabric that transforms into wings with an electric charge, much like Batman’s cape in Christopher Nolan’s. Black Knight trilogy. Redondo notes that readers will still be able to see Gordon’s freckles under her mask, and that she wears black lipstick with blue highlights as part of her disguise. The new mask allows Batgirl to better hide her identity, as the previous costumes were almost too revealing. The look almost feels like a more mature version of her iconic Burnside costume. Redondo has released a preview of the upcoming State of fear bow showing the costume in action.
Redondo designed an incredible look for Barbara as the new costume incorporates the best features of her previous looks – as well as the best parts of Batman – while being a totally unique concept in and of itself. If DC Comics will keep Barbara Gordon in the role of Bat girl for the foreseeable future, she needed a costume to match the character’s enthusiasm and now she has one.
