The Social Design Club, a new paper and party store in downtown Barrington, opened on May 25, 2021 and celebrates Saturday, June 5 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The new store is owned by Barrington resident, Katie Kuempel, who has also owned sister store Angelina for 12 years, which has moved to a new location next door.
Kuempel bought Angelina, a lifestyle and accessories boutique, from the original owner a week after graduating from college. She worked at the store throughout her college years and had visions for the concept’s future growth. Angelina has been a big name store in the center of the village for 19 years and Kuempel said: “We just started to get too big for the space. When the space next door became available I knew we had to jump on it. I don’t want to lose the location of the corner, but it made sense to move Angelina to the larger space and create a new custom concept for the smaller corner. “
Saturday’s Social Design Club opening festivities will include a prosecco truck from Bellissimo Bar Company from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and a candy floss cart from Candy Cloud Company from noon to 2 p.m. Customers will also receive a free gift bag with any purchase.
“We are excited to expand Angelina’s offerings by providing customers with fun party gifts and accessories that are hard to find at big box retailers or party venues,” continued Kuempel. “Our goal is to provide our customers with unique offerings that will allow them to create a beautiful, personalized and exciting experience for any party or gathering.”
Specialty Social Design Club items include a wrapping paper station with all accessories, a balloon bar, personalized stationery, and personalized party supplies such as mugs, coasters, napkins and more . The party store will also offer a first-of-its-kind smart card that gives customers the ability to personalize a standard paper card with a voice-activated message. Customers can record a message that is scanned onto a QR code and affixed to a collection of cards, available exclusively at the Social Design Club. When the recipient opens the card, they can scan the QR code on their iPhone and read the personalized message from a family member or friend. The smart card collection will include designs for birthdays and other occasions and will be available later this month.
“We are always looking for ways to enrich our product lines and we know that our customers seek to personalize every gift,” continued Kuempel. “These smart cards are a way to show someone you care in a new and surprising way.”
Due to the expansion, Angelina now also has a party room which is available for private events or meetings, and the store plans to offer a series of workshops in the space in the near future.
Social Design Club is located at 200 S. Cook St., Barrington.
