Happy Holidays

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

This year’s holiday season has been marked by extreme cold and lots of snow here in Michigan.  Getting out to do feed the critters has been “fun”.  We have tried blowing paths through the nearly waist deep snow out to the barns.  But, they have just been blown closed the next day.  It’s been an adventure.

Our Holiday cards are going out a bit late this year.  The picture is of two of our yearling llamas touching noses and we thought it was just too adorable not to share.

FAAF Store

Monday, December 8th, 2008

Our FAAF Store had our first official sale the other day.  I suppose people are looking around for good deals for the holidays.  Our toddler t-shirt with our baby llama (Zoey) on it sold first in November.  I have tried to keep the prices reasonable and offer products that I think are useful.

I have to admit the toddler t-shirt is very cute.

It’s Winter

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

On the farm, we have started buttoning things up for winter.  However, Old Man Winter seemed to come a bit early or we were a bit late in getting things done.  Either way, we were working in the snow to close up the barn.  The llamas and sheep didn’t seem to mind the cold.  It’s never ceases to amaze me when I see the llamas out in the barnyard in the morning with frost on their backs from the night before.  They just lay there peacefully chewing their cud.

Our chickens have decided to stop laying for the winter.  I wouldn’t have guessed that Icelandic chickens would have needed as much sunlight as normal birds.  Seeing how they are free range, they could be hiding them too.  We do tend to search for the eggs from time-to-time.  We have found clutches of eggs in the oddest places (hay loft, under bushes, mulch pile, etc.)  Our nesting boxes must not be the most appealing places for these guys.
